Frequently Asked Questions:
What is the GCC?
The Great Clue Caper is part treasure hunt, part Jeopardy! Race against other teams to find clues, solve puzzles and arrive at the finish line.
When is the GCC?
The date of the race is SUNDAY, APRIL 15. Check-in opens at 11 a.m. at the Village of Hope, 1001 Lake St. in Salisbury. Teams must be checked in by 12:45 p.m. The race begins promptly at 1 p.m. Please arrive as a team in a single vehicle, if possible. Parking is limited and the race ends at a different location, so retrieving extra cars will be a nuisance! All team members must travel in a single vehicle throughout the race.
What can I win?
The winning team will receive a check for $1,000 and a $1,000 donation to the 501(c)(3) charity of their choice. Additional prizes will be available at Clue Sites along the way.
Who can enter?
Anyone, although each team must register at least one adult. Teams may include 2 to 5 people.
How long will the race last and what should I bring?
We expect the race to last approximately three hours, with an amazing party and awards ceremony to follow. Dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes! The race will be held rain or shine; we will cancel only in the event of extreme weather. No special equipment is needed, though it might be helpful to bring a cell phone with GPS, a pen, and a local phone book.Technology is good but don’t get carried away - it probably won’t help. A full tank of gas and some petty cash, however, is just smart planning.
Will I have to bungee jump or eat anything weird?
No, the race is more cerebral (puzzles and riddles) than physical. The race will be held rain or shine. The ability to outrun other teams at clue sites could be an advantage! Teams will receive their first clue at the Village of Hope. It may be in the form of a riddle, a puzzle or something completely different. Read each clue very carefully, and follow the directions. All clue sites are within Wicomico County. Teams will also receive a Clue Book containing valuable information to solve puzzles. Pay attention! Anything could be a hint!
How much does it cost to enter?
$25 per person includes the race AND party.
How do I raise money for my team?
This is a fundraiser for the Village of Hope. There are a few ways you can contribute that will also help your team in the race! Teams that raise money for the Village can earn a head start, a valuable “hint” and a chance to bypass other teams! Teams can raise money on-line through the web site First Giving (go to https://www.firstgiving.com/89549 and click on Start Fundraising to create your own page that you'll be able to send to family and friends. Remember that every $5, $10 and $20 donation really adds up! By using this link, everything will be credited to Village of Hope, Inc.)
Own a business? Know someone who would like to buy an ad in the CLUE book? This year, teams will get credit toward a “head start” with any ads sold. Click on the Event Sponsor page to learn more about ads or other sponsorship opportunities.
Is there anything held before the race?
Yes, we will hold a Great Clue Caper Happy Hour for all registered teams on Sunday, April 1. Please join us for the opportunity to meet other teams and participate in a few mind games! We would like to collect any money you have raised through April 1 at Happy Hour and credit it to your team. We believe that will speed up registration the day of the race. You may continue to raise money up until April 15! We will collect the balance at registration.
Where does the race end?
At the end of the race, we are hosting a block party (but where?) with live music, entertainment and food provided by the Local Owner Restaurant Association (LORA). Your registration in the race is also a ticket to the party! Should you wish to buy tickets for friends or family members not running the race, they are available on our Party page through March 31. Tickets for those not running the race are $20.
Are there any more rules?
Yes! Here's a copy of the official rules. Each team, once they enter, will be mailed a packet of materials, including the rules. Read them carefully!
But I have more questions?
